Week 9

4-2 last week, let's get to work!

Chicago (-2.5) @ Buffalo
The 0-7 Bills will not go 0-16 this season. The Bears teased everyone in the beginning of the year, but have fallen back to earth. Jay Cutler is inconsistent, I don't believe he's a leader and on the scale of Quarterback's, he is in the bottom third of the league. The Bills have a lousy defense, an offense that hasn't really clicked and a lame duck coach, who if he makes past next season, I would be shocked. So, something has to give.
Bills 24 - Bears 21

Baltimore (-5.5) vs Miami
The Dolphins are 4-0 on the road and the game is in Baltimore. I think Miami's Defense is pretty good and will stymy the Ravens Offense. Dan Carpenter has been a field goal kicking machine and has accounted for 85% of the Dolphins offense the last two weeks. The Dolphins will contain Ray Rice and it will be up to Joe Flacco to win this game.
Dolphins 22 - Ravens 21

San Diego (-1.5) @ Houston
The Texans looked awful last week in Indy, but was in the game until the last 3 minutes. The Chargers are making their end of the season playoff push. The Chargers Receivers are so banged up, Patrick Crayton in the number 1 guy. The Texans Defense is so bad, Patrick Crayton will look like an all pro.
Chargers 28 - Texans 24

NY Giants (-5.5) @ Seattle
Matt Hasselbeck is out, Charlie Whitehurst is in. The Seahawks traded Whitehurst to be the QB of the future, the future begins this weekend. The Giants might be the best team in the NFC. But, playing in Seattle is never easy. Marshawn Lynch will go off on the Giants Defense
Seahawks 34 - Giants 24

Green Bay (-7.5) vs Dallas
Oh how America's team has fallen. Tony Romo out, Dallas Running game average at best, The Cowboys are as bad as advertised. Wade Phillips is a joke of a coach for a joke of an organization and I am waiting for Jerry Jones to make himself the new coach. The Packers are an enigma this season, Aaron Rodgers is still one of the best QBs in the league, but not sure what else they have.
Cowboys 23 - Packers 21

Pittsburgh (-4.5) @ Cincinnati
Mt St. Owens will explode this week and not in a good way. He'll cry about something and the media will pick it up like it's news worthy. Big Ben will bounce back from a disappointed Halloween Night game in New Orleans. But The Bengals Defense will keep things close
Steelers 26 - Bengals 23

Week 8

2-4 last week. I am not picking winners this season, this is getting scary. Time to turn things around this week.

Detroit (-2.5) vs Washington
Wow, Detroit is favored over Washington, even though Washington beat Chicago last week. DeAngelo Hall did his best Bears receiver impression last week catching 4 passes from Jay Cutler. Too bad he plays for the Skins. Anyway, Matt Statford is back this week and this is a nice test for him. The Skins have a decent defense, but I think the whole key will be Detroit's Defense. Can they stop McNabb?
Lions 21 - Redskins 20

NY Jets (-6.5) vs Green Bay
This is a very important game for both teams. I am still not convinced the Jets are as good as their record, but I guess this is why I am not doing this season picking winners. So forget about the game, my strategy is this, The Odds makers know more than me.
Jets 28 - Packers 21

San Diego (-3.5) vs Tennessee
I think this is the week San Diego comes out of their slump. As long as they don't let Kenny Britt torch them for 200+ yards.
Chargers 34 - Titans 24

New England (-5.5) vs Minnesota
Randy Moss returns to New England. I don't see him beating the Pats. I do see a high scoring game
Patriots 44 - Vikings 37

New Orleans (-.5) vs Pittsburgh
The Saints will turn things around this week
Saints 24 - Steelers 21

Indianapolis (-5.5) vs Houston
I called week 1 upset of the Texans knocking off Colts. This is a very important game to determine who will win the AFC South. Peyton Manning's favorite target is out for the season, so who will become his new favorite? The Texans are so inconsistent.
Colts 28 - Texans 20

week 7

Wow, I have really been slumping, I am going back to picking 6 games a week, like that tool Goldberg does. The rest of my picks are on my espn.com account. Here we go:

Atlanta (-3.5) vs Cincinnati
I still believe the Falcons are the best team in the NFC, however getting shellacked by the Eagles last week, I am not as sure. The formula is there, a good team, coming off a bad loss on the road, returning home against a team that has no identity. I love the Falcons here and I love Mt. St. Owens beginning his inevitable melt down.
Falcons 27 - Bengals 21

San Francisco (-3.5) @ Carolina.
I picked the 49ers to win the NFC West, I still think they will. Carolina is really bad, so bad in fact, they are going back to Matt Moore as their QB, the Jimmy Clausen experiment will continue again by week 10 or 11. Alex Smith is a serviceable QB, Frank Gore still has some football left in him. And I don't see the Panthers stopping the run
49ers 34 - Panthers 21

Pittsburgh (-3.5) @ Miami
Miami has to win this game at home, they cannot afford to go 0-3 at home if they expect to make the playoffs. Big Ben has a week under his belt, he will be much sharper this week. The Steelers will run all over Miami, can Miami do the same against the Steelers? Chad Henne has yet to show me consistency
Steelers 24 - Dolphins 20

San Diego (-2.5) vs New England
Wow, the Chargers are disappointing this season. I don't see things changing so fast for them.
Patriots 35 - Chargers 17

Green Bay (-2.5) vs Minnesota
I am not a Brett Favre fan, but Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin are studs and Randy Moss is getting use to his new home.
Vikings 29 - Packers 21

Dallas (-3.5) vs NY Giants
Must win for Dallas to save their season. If they lose, heads will roll.
Cowboys 28 - Giants 24

Friday, October 15, 2010

Week 6

Wow, I really sucked last week. I couldn't pick a winner even if I guessed against myself. So here are some of my thoughts coming into this weekend:

Chicago (-6.5) vs Seattle
The Bears are at home against the Seahawks. Jay Cutler will be back after missing a week with a concussion. BTW, how many concussions have there been this season so far? Are the hits getting harder or just the diagnosis getting easier? Anyway, I am not buying into the Seahawks as anything more than an 8-8 team. And sadly, they might win their division. Seahawks are on the road, where they do not do well. It will be interesting to see if Marshawn Lynch gets some opportunities. I like the Bears this week
Bears 24 - Seahawks 13

New England (-2.5) vs Baltimore
Patriots at home coming off a bye week, it's hard to pick against that. However, the Ravens could be the best team in the NFL. Their Defense has not been leading the way and Ed Reed is a week or so away of returning. Tom Brady has one of his favorite targets back in Dieon Branch. The Patriots have proven they can win as long as Tom Brady is protected.
Patriots 27 - Ravens 24

NY Giants (-10.5) vs Detroit
The Lions are coming off a 44 pt out pour on the poor Rams. I thought the Rams would surprise everyone last week, I was wrong. I am still not buying into the Lions, they are much improved, but lack something. The Giants seem to be clicking and this could very well be a blow out.
Giants 38 - Lions 17

Philadelphia (-1.5) vs Atlanta
Matt Ryan returns home to play the Eagles. 2 years ago, the Eagles stifled him, I think this Eagle Defense is much better. Here's the problem, The Eagles Offensive line is not doing so well and I think they will get to Kevin Kolb. Kolb will have to make fast decisions and that will lead to LeSean McCoy getting a lot of touches. However, the Falcons, in my opinion are the best team in the NFC, at least right now and I think they find a way to win
Falcons 22 - Eagles 20

Pittsburgh (-13.5) vs Cleveland
Rookie QB Colt McCoy starting in Pittsburgh, ouch. Big Ben returns from his 4 week suspension with a lot to prove, this won't be pretty if you are a Browns fan
Pittsburgh 37 - Browns 6

Green Bay (-1.5) vs Miami
Will Aaron Rodgers play or not?
Dolphins 24 - Packers 11

San Diego (-8.5) @ St. Louis
Chargers coming off a sloppy loss to the Raiders and The Lions coming off a sloppy loss to the Lions. I feel Norv Turner is on the hot seat this year, especially if they don't win the AFC West and make it to the Championship game. The Rams are a good team to take it all out on, but will the young Rams Defense be able to contain the high powered Chargers Offense?
Chargers 31 - Rams 16

New Orleans (-5.5) @ Tampa
The Saints are a better team than the Bucs, but I get the impression from the Bucs, they don't know they are not suppose to be competitive. Josh Freeman is definitely a future star in this league and I like their young receiving corp. But the Saints proved last year they can win and even with all of the injuries, I still think Drew Brees and company pulls this one out.
Saints 26 - Bucs 20

Houston (-4.5) vs Kansas City
Houston got destroyed last week by the Giants. They were not in the game at all. Matt Schaub has been very inconsistent this season and that really hurts their chances of winning the division. Andre Johnson is hurt, but the whole key to the team is Owen Daniels, with him still recovering from injuries, the Texans haven't been able to move the ball like in the past. The Chiefs, like the Buccs are a young team with a lot of talent, but lack experience. I think they should move Dwayne Bowe and stock pile some draft picks. This game will come down to which defense shows up to stop the other.
Texans 28 - Chiefs 17

San Francisco (-6.5) vs Oakland
Finally, the 49ers get off the schneid, or the Coach gets canned.
49ers 35 - Raiders 21

NY Jets (3.5) @ Denver
I still don't buy into the Jets. I don't know what it is, but I don't see them as a top team in the league. LT can't go on like this whole season, can he? Mark Sanchez is still a sophomore? The Defense, despite injuries is still one of the best in the league. Kyle Orton is having a great season, this will be a great test.
Jets 26 - Broncos 23

Minnesota (-1.5) vs Dallas
My least favorite player against my least favorite team
Cowboys 24 - Vikings 21

Indianapolis (-3.5) @ Washington
Peyton Manning tears the skins defense to shreads. McNabb does the same to Indy's.
Colts 44 - Redskins 34

Tennessee (-3.5) @ Jacksonville
Jags keep it close the first three quarters, Titans run away from the in the 4th
Titans 31 - Jags 13

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Week 5

I didn't have a good week last week, much like the Eagles, I felt like my ribs were broken and cartilage torn, so after 6 wins, let's see if we can get back on track with week 5.

Jacksonville (-1.5) @ Buffalo
Buffalo is bad, real bad. Jacksonville, is a little better, but not sure how much. David Garrard is too inconsistent and on the road, not sure what you are going to get, Buffalo traded Marshawn Lynch this past week, making way for CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson to take the reigns. I don't see the Bills going 0-16, they are going to have to win a game sooner than later, the law of averages say so.
Bills 24 - Jags 20

Cincinnati (-6.5) vs Tampa
The Bucs started off so well, but were quickly brought back to earth by the Steelers. They are a very young team, with a good up and coming QB. The Bengals are a mess, you don't know what you are really getting, but they have talent. Their Defense has been good, but not spectacular. Carson Palmer has fallen pretty far, but has talent around him.
Bengals 30 - Buccs 21

Atlanta (-3.5) @ Cleveland
This is a very interesting match up. I love Atlanta this year, I think Matt Ryan is the verge of being a top 5 QB, think of Tony Romo, but better. I like their supporting cast and I really like Head Coach Mike Smith. But Cleveland is one of those teams that doesn't look good on paper, but at the end of the year, they will win 7-8 games and you will wonder how? I kinda want to see Cleveland lose some so Colt McCoy will get a chance at QB. Here's the break down, Can Peyton Hillis rush for 100+ yards? Will Mo Massaqueri finally have a break out game? Will Josh Cribbs have a total of 100 all purpose yards? But it comes down to this, can Cleveland's Defense contain, Atlanta's Offense?
Falcons 26 - Browns 17

Detroit (-3.5) vs St. Louis
The Rams are in first place in the NFC West and the Lions are winless. Sam Bradford looks really good for a rookie. Matthew Stratford is still hurt. Both Head Coaches Jim Scwartz and Steve Spagnola are solid up and coming coaches in the league. It's hard to see a home field advantage, St. Louis plays in a dome of their own and I don't see a "raucous" crowd in Ford Field to change the game. I see a shoot out and whomever has the ball last wins.
Rams 45 - Lions 41

Indianapolis (-8.5) vs Kansas City
Usually a team off their bye week will have an extra week to prepare for their next opponent, but KC will have to deal with an irate Indy team, who lost to Jacksonville on a last second field goal. Division rival or not, losing to Jax is not good for Peyton Manning and company. Indy's defense losing Melvin Bullet hurts. KC is playing way above what anyone thought. It's hard to see KC as more than a touchdown under dog, even on the road. I still think Indy is good, but Indy of 2 years ago would blow them away. I think this is a close game and KC's Special Teams will have a big day.
Colts 28 - Chiefs 23 (1972 Dolphins can pop the champagne early this season)

Green Bay (-2.5) @ Washington
The Redskins beat the Eagles last week. The Packers beat them in week 1. Both teams didn't do it pretty. Donovan McNabb still has some left in the tank, too bad he has NO ONE around him. Aaron Rodgers is at the top of his game with lots of weapons. Skins defense is better than the Pack's.
Packers 24 - Redskins 14

Chicago (-1.5) @ Carolina
Todd Collins gets the start for the Bears. Jimmy Clausen gets his third start minus Steve Smith this week. The Bears defense is good, The Panthers Defense is not.
Bears 13 - Panther 10

Baltimore (7.5) vs Denver
Ravens 23 - Broncos 21

Houston (-3.5) vs NY Giants
Not sure which Giant or Texan team will show up
Giants 26 - Texans 24

New Orleans (-8.5) @ Arizona
Rookie QB starting in the Desert, don't know what you are getting. But you have Larry Fitzgerald to throw to. New Orleans too many weapons on Offense.
Saints 38 - Cardinals 14

San Diego (-6.5) @ Oakland
Both teams are mysteries.
Chargers 24 - Raiders 17

Dallas (-6.5) vs Tennessee
Vince Young coming home. he has a lot to prove. Chris Johnson is no where near the 2,500 yard pace. Titans Defense looked flat last week. Cowboys coming off a bye needs a big one at home. Tony Romo is due for a big game as do the Cowboys Running Attack. If it was a game of coaching, Titans would win by 5 scores, but it comes down to talent
Cowboys 28 - Titans 20

San Francisco (-3.5) vs Philadelphia
Eagles 2-0 on the road, San Fran 0-4. Kevin Kolb gets his big chance due to Michael Vick's injury. It comes down to LeSean McCoy, if he plays, he is playing with broken ribs, OUCH. I am not sure Mike Bell can do half of what McCoy can. Alex Smith has regressed and I have a feeling David Carr will get into this game. Can the Eagles stop Frank Gore?
49ers 26 - Eagles 21

NY Jets (-4.5) vs Minnesota
I am not a fan of the Jets. I am not a fan of Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez or Braylon Edwards. I think LT Is playing on borrowed time. Randy Moss is back with the Vikings and the Diva has a weapon to chuck the ball to. It all comes down to Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin.
Vikings 31 - Jets 28

Week 4

After finishing 8 and 8 last week, I thought I would go into the vault and dig a little deeper and see if I can hit my usual 10-11 weekly picks. While most are surprised by Kansas City, Chicago and Philadelphia's success, I am not. In fact, I am more surprised by San Francisco, Dallas and Minnesota not being undefeated. Anyway, here are my picks for week 4 and there is no scientific way I pick them, usually I go with my gut.

Atlanta (-6.5) vs San Francisco.
As I mentioned above, I am shocked San Francisco is 0-3. I thought they had a pretty solid Offensive Line, Great Running back in Gore, Great Receiver in Crabtree, Great Tight End in Davis. All Alex Smith has to do is manage the game. That really hasn't happened. In fact, Alex Smith has to win games and as you can see that isn't happening. Firing the Offensive Coordinator won't be enough this week. The only saving grace for the 49ers, the NFC stinks. The Falcons are my pick to win the NFC South. I love Matt Ryan and the supporting cast. I think Mike Smith doesn't get enough credit for the job he has done since arriving. The Falcons are at home and I see a huge blow out.
Falcons 37 - 49ers 20

NY Jets (-5.5) @ Buffalo.
Here's my upset of the week. Buffalo is 0-3, only in week 2 in Green Bay they got blown out. CJ Spiller is going to be a star. Marshawn Lynch will probably be traded and Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard. I think this is a case of disliking the Jets more than liking the Bills. The Jets are 2-1 and I think with all of that talent, probably should be 3-0. However, I am still not sold on Mark Sanchez, however he has played very well the last 2 weeks. I think LT has little in the tank and I don't see him as a 16 game back. Rex Ryan, like his daddy, has a big mouth, but can his teams back it up? I see the Jets overlooking the Bills and this game will be a good "take a step back and get refocus" by the Jets going into their Bye.
Bills 24 - Jets 23

Cincinnati (-4.5) @ Cleveland
I am not a Bengals fan. I think Carson Palmer is one hit away of being knocked out for the season. I think Mount St. Owens will explode soon. I think it is too much for Chad Ochocinco to keep this team together. Cleveland has to win this game. Desperate times, desperate measures. They have Atlanta, @ Pittsburgh and @ New Orleans coming up. I think Eric Mangini is a lame duck coach and I think Jake Delhomme will be either cut or benched by week 12 in favor of Colt McCoy.
Browns 26 - Bengals 17

Green Bay (-14.5) vs Detroit.
So Green Bay is coming off a Monday Night Game where they were penalized 18 times and James Jones fumble at the end of the game spelled defeat against the Bears. Aaron Rodgers is not afraid to take off and run for a first down or touch down, he has a solid receiving core in Jennings, Driver and Finley. Their running back is suspect and Special teams stinks. Green Bay's Defense didn't play well Monday Night. In fact, Clay Matthews is running around like a crazy man, I am waiting for Offensive Coordinators to use his aggressiveness against him. Detroit should not be 0-3, they out played Chicago in week 1 and could have easily beaten the Eagles in Week 2. Matthew Stratford was suppose to have a breakout year this season, but has been sidelined with injuries. Now, Jahvid Best is hurt. Green Bay will win this game, but will they cover?
Packers 28 - Lions 16

Tennessee (-6.5) vs Denver.
The Broncos can't score from the Red Zone. I can't say I am surprised. Knowshown Moreno is slightly above average. Jabbar Gaffney is a little better than Moreno. So what Kyle Orton is doing is amazing. He is putting up numbers with sub par parts. I was not a big Josh McDaniels fan when he took over the reigns last season, but I am intrigued now and I think Denver will be a team to be reckoned with. Tennessee has the make up of everything I like in a team. Star Running Back who gets 20+ carries a game. Solid QB who has talent, but uses the pieces around him. Good Receiving Corp, Solid Offensive Line, Good Defense who doesn't beat themselves. Head Coach who doesn't loss games because of stupid decisions.
Titans 31- Broncos 24

Seattle (-.5) @ St. Louis
The Rams are an upcoming team. They beat a Washington team on the ropes last week and were able to knock them out even without Pro Bowl RB Steven Jackson. Sam Bradford looks solid and Defense is improving. Word of advise, keep it away from Leon Washington on kickoffs and/or punts. Seattle is one of those teams that wins games it shouldn't and loses games it shouldn't. Matt Hasselbeck doesn't have much left, but he might be able to get them by this season before they have to retool. The NFC West is soooo bad, anyone of the four teams can win it this season.
Rams 23 - Seahawks 20

New Orleans (-13.5) vs Carolina.
I thought Atlanta had the talent to stay with the Saints, keep it close and win at the end. I was right. I thought Carolina would turn the page and start over new against Cincinnati with a New QB, I was wrong. Jimmy Clausin is not Matt Ryan, he is going to have some bumps in the road. With the injuries at the O Line, Carolina is in big trouble. Drew Brees with all of those weapons, coming off a loss, this doesn't look good for the Panthers.
Saints 44 - Panthers 20

Pittsburgh (-1.5) vs Ravens.
Who would have thought Charlie Batch would be leading the 3-0 Steelers into week 4, the last Roethliesburger game? The Steelers are playing well and I don't see that stopping. The Ravens have question marks, Flacco has played okay, Ray Rice is injured. Does Willis McGahee have enough? Can The Ravens control the ball for 38 minutes on Offense?
Steelers 16 - Ravens 14

Indianapolis (-8.5) @ Jacksonville.
The Jags always play the Colts tough. Peyton Manning can make a star out of anyone. David Garrard is on his way out. This shouldn't be a game, but I think the score will be close
Colts 28 - Jaguars 20

Houston (-3.5) @ Oakland.
Oakland should have won last week, Janikowski missed three field goals. Houston is good and my pick to win their division, but this is a stinker game.
Raiders 16 - Texans 14

San Diego (-8.5) vs Cardinals.
Chargers come out flying on all cylinders. Cardinals are a below average team with no QB
Chargers 42 - Cardinals 17

Philadelphia (-6.5) vs Washington.
How smart is Andy Reid? Well, we will find out this weekend. If McNabb wins, Reid underestimated the old adage "Don't trade in your own division." Donovan McNabb will receive a hero's welcome. He lead the Eagles to 5 NFC Title Games. Michael Vick has to continue his play and there is no reason why he shouldn't. The team that makes the less mistakes wins.
Eagles 27 - Redskins 24

NY Giants (-3.5) vs Chicago.
The Giants out played Tennessee last weekend, but got killed. The Bears were out played by Green Bay and won. This is the Giants season, if they lose to the Bears, they will start to tinker with this team. Jay Cutler has played real well and The Monsters of the Midway have been great again. Primetime game in the City that doesn't sleep will be an exciting game.
Giants 31 - Bears 27

New England (-.5) @ Miami.
Miami should have won last week against the Jets, but they didn't play with enough urgency. The Patriots didn't blow Buffalo away, like most thought they would, but they won. The Patriots have been doing it with smoke and mirrors over the last few years.
Dolphins 29 - Patriots 27.

QB's around the league

I can't say I am surprised with Brett Favre's success (or lack there of) so far this season. I knew it was just a matter of time for the one time impact QB to play his age. He always was a gun slinger who thought he was better than the game, but now he is just an average Quarterback. I am surprised by Michael Vick's play. Talented yes, disciplined no, Vick so far has turned it around and looks like he will be around for a long, long time. The one thing I really think making Vick so good, is his patience. He is letting the game come to him. He is hitting his wide outs, which is something McNabb never did consistently throughout a game.

Speaking of McNabb, he has to win games like the one Sunday against St. Louis. If the team isn't able to run the ball or stop a rookie QB, than McNabb has to elevate his game. That's what made him so special in Philly for all of those years. If he can't, than it's no surprise Andy Reid traded him to a division rival.

Trent Edwards waived by Buffalo and claimed by Jacksonville. Talk about going from one bad situation to another. I like Jack Del Rio, but I think he is done in JAX after this season. I also think David Garrard will follow and I wonder if this is why Trent Edwards was signed, take a chance on him by week 11 and see if he will be a QB of the future with this team.

Charlie Batch is looking like a great Backup QB and I hope Pittsburgh rewards him with the back up duties when Big Ben returns.

I really like Josh Freeman and I think he is the real deal. Imagine how good this team will be with some experience?

NFL's Week 3

Here are my picks for the coming weekend:
San Francisco (-2.5) @ Kansas City. If you would have told anyone 2 weeks ago, one team would be undefeated and the other is still searching for a win, you probably would have picked San Fran to be the better team. The 49ers played well enough to win Monday night against New Orleans, but on a last second field goal, they didn't. San Francisco had too many turnovers and have been playing sloppy so far in this young season. Kansas City has been doing it by running the ball, as well as special teams. This game will be a true test for the Chiefs, can their run defense stop Frank Gore? Will Alex Smith distribute the ball to all of weapons? Can Matt Cassell manage the game and not turn the ball over?
Chiefs 24 - San Fran 20

Baltimore (+10.5) hosting Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns are this bad. Or are they? They lost 2 games by a total of 5 points, granted they lost to the Buccs in Tampa and KC. Cleveland is hurt by injuries - Jake Delhomme and Jerome Harrison. The big question for the Browns can they stop the Ravens Ray Rice? The Ravens will be playing with a chip on their shoulder losing a game they could have one last week against Cincinnati. I wouldn't want to play against an angry Ray Lewis. Joe Flacco looks confused and has digressed from his brilliant Rookie Campaign 2 season's ago. But I think this is a break out game for Baltimore and I think they win Big at home.
Ravens 33 - Cleveland 9

Dallas (+2.5) @ Houston. Another 2-0/0-2 match up. Dallas has looked uninspired and dreadful and I know it's only week 3, but at 0-3, will they make the playoffs? The Offensive Line has been bad, The Defense couldn't stop Chicago last week. So how are they going to stop the hot Matt Schaub? How will they contain Arian Foster? Do they have an answer for Andre Johnson? I think Dallas has another bad game, but I think Houston will come down from the high of winning two big games.
Cowboys 27 - Texans 23

Detroit (+10.5) @ Minnesota. How does Minnesota become a double digit favorite playing the way they have so far? Oh yeah, they have Adrian Peterson. LeSean McCoy torched the Lions Defense for 120 yards. Peterson will run all day and if Brett the Diva doesn't turn the ball over (hint short passes to Harvin), Minnesota will win this game easily. Detroit is still a year away, but they are moving in the right direction.
Vikings 46 - Lions 17

Patriots (-13.5) hosting Buffalo. On paper this is probably the biggest lopsided game. The Pats have won 7 straight against Buffalo and they go against New QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. I think everyone is expecting pass pass pass from Tom Brady, but I think they will run run run. I think CJ Spiller has his coming out party and breaks the 100 yard market. But ultimately, New England is too much.
Patriots 31 - Bills 17

Atlanta (+4.5) @ New Orleans. The Saints are undefeated and looking like world beaters. They are determined to repeat as World Champions. But do not tell Atlanta that. I really like Michael Turner and Jason Snelling pounding the Saints Defense. And I expect Matt Ryan to pick apart the secondary. I think this will be a huge upset and set the Falcons in motion to win the division.
Falcons 28 - Saints 17

Tennessee (+3.5) @ NY Giants. Both teams got spanked last week, so it back to the basics. For the Titans, that's running Chris Johnson and a tenacious defense. For the Giants, well, I am not sure what it is. I see Tennessee stopping the Giants from doing anything and holding on to the ball for 40-45 minutes.
Titans 19 - Giants 10

Carolina (-3.5) hosting Cincinnati. I am not sold on Cincinnati. I am waiting for Mt St. Owens to explode, it's going to happen. I do like Jordan Shippley and think he is a better option than TO. Cincinnati defense has played well, but last week, Baltimore's offense was putrid. Of all the Rookie QB's, Jimmy Clausen was my least favorite, probably because he played at Notre Dame. But I see big things coming from him in the future and I don't see the Panthers winning too many games this season, I do see hope in Clausen.
Panthers 22 - Bengals 20

Pittsburgh (-2.5) @ Tampa. Tampa is a young team with an up and coming QB. Pittsburgh is playing with QB no. 4. Tampa's Defense has been good, but truly untested. Pittsburgh's Defense has been good and very well tested. I like the Steelers in a low scoring, grinding game.
Steelers 13 - Tampa 7

Philadelphia (-2.5) @ Jacksonville. We all know the Michael Vick story, so let's look at the other factors 1. LeSean McCoy looks like he will be a star (of course 120 yards against Detroit is hard to justify that statement.) 2. Philly's Defense made stops when they had to, they should do the same this week. 3. David Garrard might be playing himself out of town. Jack Del Rio deserves better than this.
Eagles 29 - Jags 14

St. Louis (+2.5) hosting Washington. Donovan McNabb will have a huge game. Sam Bradford will learn from watching McNabb
Redskins 27 - Rams 24

Denver (+6.5) hosting Indianapolis. I think Denver is far from being a dominant team, but the pieces are starting to come together. Indy will start to show their age sometime, just not sure when?
Colts 23 - Broncos 17

Oakland (+4.5) @ Arizona. This should be one ugly game. I like Darren McFadden running all over the place. I like Bruce Gradkowski picking apart Arizona Defense. I think this is the begging of the End for Derrick Anderson.
Raiders 33 - Cardinals 14

San Diego (-5.5) @ Seattle. The Chargers will be without Rookie Back Ryan Mathews. Phillip Rivers will be forced to win this game in a hostile environment. Matt Hasselbeck has played well, but not close to spectacular.
Chargers 26 - Seahawks 19

Miami (-1.5) hosting the NY Jets. Interesting game, Miami's Defense has propelled them to this 2-0 start. Ronnie Brown has been solid and Chad Henne has been fair. Mark Sanchez has shown flashes of brilliance and LT at times looks like his old self. Jason Taylor will be coming home to a tremendous ovation. I see this being a very low scoring game, unless 1 or 2 things can happen. Brandon Marshall can hold on to the ball and a Jet Receiver can step up.
Dolphins 16 - Jets 13

Green Bay (-3.5) @ Chicago. This just on a hunch, nothing more, nothing less.
Bears 24 - Packers 21

In Full Swing

With the NFL Season in Full Swing, I thought I would share some of my thoughts about the 2010 season. First of all, every year there is a surprise team or two and this season is no different. Kansas City and Tampa are both 2-0 and Dallas and Minnesota are both 0-2. I really like Kansas City, I think they have a young nucleus, solid running game, decent Offensive Line, good Defense and great Special Teams. I think they have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. However, I think Tampa won two games against sub par opponents.

Brett Favre is showing why I would have steered clear of him. And if things persist to go south for the Vikings, Brett the Diva will re-re-retire mid season. Dallas on the other hand is a true surprise to me. EVERYONE on that team is playing lousy and heads will roll if they don't turn it around soon.

WIth that all said, here are a few of my observations thus far:
Houston is playing well and can win by running, passing or defense.
Donovan McNabb looks strange in Maroon and Gold.
Rex Ryan might be a bigger blow hard than his dad.

Here are my predictions:
AFC
East: Dolphins, Patriots, Jets, Bills
South: Texans, Colts, Titans, Jags
Central: Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Browns
West: Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos, Raiders

NFC:
East: Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Eagles
South: Falcons, Saints, Buccs, Panthers
Central: Packers, Bears, Lions, Vikings
West: Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, Rams

Super Bowl: Falcons - Chargers (Chargers)

LOST

It has taken me about a week to digest the series finale of Lost. It has been an amazing 6 years and I am glad I stuck around for the conclusion. The Show's title Lost spoke on so many levels, the obvious being Passenger's of Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on an island somewhere in the South Pacific and were lost. But as the season's went by and the Flash Backs and Flash Forwards showed they were a bunch of Lost Souls needing redemption.

In this last season, the Flash Sideways showed all of these characters were not flawed, in fact, the were the polar opposite of their island self. But the real kicker was, they were dead in the Sideways World and needed to be island enlightened. And when they were enlightened, they could pass onto the other side.

Perfection

Last Night I had the privilege of watching Roy Hallday throw MLB's 20th Perfect Game and it was amazing. In the 5th inning it really started to hit me, he is in the zone. After a shaky first couple of innings, he began to get his pitch count down. By the 7th inning, I knew I was in for something special, whatever the result. In the 9th inning, my stomach was turning. The last out, Euphoria.

This is the kind of pitcher who deserves world championships and I hope the Phillies can do it this year for Roy.

The Final Four

Ughhh, I really sucked making my picks this year. Infact, this is the first time in 22 years, I didn't get at least 1 team into the Final Four. But, my thinking wasn't bad, I just messed up my teams. Two number 5 seeds made it into the Final Four and one from a mid major, but it wasn't Temple. It was Butler. Like Temple, they had a great year, but unlike Temple, they controlled the pace of their first 4 games and won.

I knew a top team would lose in the second round, I thought it would be Kentucky. Young and Talented isn't always a formula to make it to the Final Four, well, the top team was Kansas, my team to win it all. I thought KU had a nice mix of talent, experience and luck to do it. I was wrong.

Tom Izzo is the best coach in College Hoops right now. He seems to take under achieving teams and does great things with them. He also has a record of 15-3 on the second game of a weekend. Which means, he gets his team prepared.

West Virginia won the Big East. Bob Huggins good coach, shady background. Has his team playing great at the right time.

Coach K deserves a final four, his first in 6 years. I don't think he has the best team out there, but they seem to take advantage of the opportunity.

My picks: Michigan State over Butler / WVU over Duke / Michigan State cuts down the nets

Considering I am right 50% of the time, it's safe to assume, my prediction is only half right.

Hey guess what? Opening Day next week!

My Guide to Picking the NCAA's.

I have been watching the NCAA tournament for 25 years and in this time, I've learned a thing or two about how the tournament plays out. The lowest seed to ever win it all, was 1985 - Villanova an 8 seed. A 1 never lost to a 16. I was in attendance for the first 15 (Richmond) knocking off a 2 (Syracuse.) In fact, the first two 15 seeds that upset a 2, their next opponent - Temple. Speaking of Temple, they never got past the Elite 8. The lowest seed to ever make a final four - George Mason - 11. That was also the last time a mid-major made it to the Final Four.

Get your pens and brackets out and lets go win some $$.
Midwest -
1. Kansas beats 16. Lehigh & will beat the winner of the UNLV/Northern Iowa game (I Like NIU BTW.
5. Michigan St. gets to the sweet 16, knocking off 4. Maryland. Tom Izzo is good, real good, especially with teams that fly under the radar.
6. Tennessee gets to the sweet 16 through 3. Georgetown. (I am not impressed with Georgetown and Tennessee will win because there will be 2 SEC in the Sweet 16.)
2. Ohio State beats 7. Oklahoma St.
Kansas knocks off Michigan St and Ohio State beats Tennessee. Kansas beats Ohio State to win the Midwest...

West -
1. Syracuse will have a tough time with Vermont, there seems to be a slim chance Vermont pulls the upset (They beat Cuse a few years ago in Buffalo, but I don't think history will repeat itself. The 8/9 game is intriguing The Zags/FSU. I like the Zags to win simply because they have had more big games than FSU, but either team loses to Syracuse in the next round.
5. Butler is good - 12. UTEP is everyone's darling, but I think Butler wins. Here is an upset 13. Murray State knocks off Vandy. Murray State/ Butler great game, I like Butler to move into the sweet 16 and play Syracuse.
6. Xavier beats 14. Oakland. Sorry Pitt, every year there is one big upset in the first round by a team no one has ever heard of and this year it's Oakland. Pitt has underachieved all year and I think Jamie Dixon is a great coach, but I just see Pitt playing awful.
7. BYU will match up with Xavier in the Sweet 16 as they knock off K-State along the way. KSU had a great year, but this game is a let down.
1. Syracuse will play Xavier for the right to get to the final 4, I love Xavier, tough defense, solid guard play and can shoot, but Xavier won't have enough and the second No. 1 cruises into the final four.

South -
Some say this is the easiest conference, I say ha! This will be the most competitive and entertaining. Duke, Nova, Baylor, Louisville.
1. Duke was panned by the talking heads, not worthy of a number 1 because they won the ACC, huh? Sorry Coach Pitino, No revenge this year, Duke cruises to the sweet 16.
4. Purdue is hurt and down, and probably should lose to Sienna, but I think they win (barely).
5. Texas A&M is an overwhelming favorite, but every year, a 12 beats a 5 and Utah State has the honors this year. Utah state knocks off Purdue too.
2. Nova makes it to the sweet 16 through Richmond, but if Richmond pulls the upset, I would not be surprised. Baylor beats Notre Dame on their way to the S16.
Duke beats Utah St and Nova beats Baylor, setting up a 1-2 in the South. Even though Nova has lost 5 of 7, the committee always seems to get it right and Nova cruises into their second consecutive final four.

East -
This is the year something crazy happens and it's in the East. 1. Kentucky is very talented, but they are very young. Coach Cal is an awesome coach, but he always seems to not win the big one when he has more talent than his opponent. I don't think its a knock on him, it's just his team is young. So with that said, 8. Texas upsets Kentucky and heads to the S16. They will play 5. Temple who will have a back to back tough games against Cornell and Wisconsin. BTW, the committee jobbed both Temple and Cornell. Temple should have been a 3 seed and Cornell a 9.
11. Washington upsets 6. Marquette and 3. New Mexico on their way to play 2. WVU in the S16. So now here is where my dream takes over my reality. Reality is, WVU beats Temple and once again the Owls make it to the Elite 8, but this is the year Temple breaks the glass ceiling and here's why. 1. Fran Dunphy can coach, most underrated coach in the NCAA and I usually say Coaches can't win games only lose them, Dunphy is the exception. 2. the A-10 never gets respect, only 1 final four team in their history (UMass.) Temple can play with the big boys. There RPI is in the top 10, they play anyone in their back yard. 3. They have the best passing big man in basketball (Lavoy Allen) The best player no one has ever heard of (Juan Fernandez) and a mix of experience players who are not fazed by playing in big games. So hell with it, I am going with Temple to make it the to the final four.

I see Kansas beating Syracuse and Nova getting Revenge on Temple from an earlier loss and Kansas winning the whole thing. And there you have it, my guide to win your bracket

Can't get it right

I am the first to complain about the BCS. I can't understand how a computer can pick a National Championship game and College Football should be more like College Hoops. Well, after seeing this years brackets, the selection committee dropped the ball. How can Temple, winners of the A-10, 29-5 record, an RPI of 8 and a 10 game winning streak be rewarded with a 5 seed against an over powering opponent Cornell? Where as city Rival Villanova, losers of 5 of 7, including a a Big East quarterfinal lose, an RPI of 15 and a head-to-head lose, given a 2 seed?

I feel Temple has a better second round match up with Wisconsin than first round Cornell. I'm not really sure what to think of Villanova's road to the final four. I guess after venting I feel better, the committee gets it right so I think Temple will beat Cornell and play Wisconsin or Wofford in round 2.

I like Kansas to win the whole thing. They have the best all around team, played in the toughest conference and kept winning.

Chilly and The Diva - The Reprise

I was starting to get a little nervous, like I would have to apologize for being wrong. Brett Favre was about to make me eat crow and than I was saved by my favorite, least favorite coach Brad Childress. Don't get me wrong, Chilly is an excellent Offensive Coordinator, but like Chuck Weis, Romeo Crennel, Gregg Williams, Ray Rhodes, Buddy Ryan, he was a better Coordinator than head coach.

I see this all of the time and it almost always rings true, coaches lose games, more than they win them. Case in Point, Chilly during the NFC Championship game. New Orleans and Minnesota were taking turns giving the game away to each other. It was definitely going to be, whomever had the ball last would win kind of a game. And late in the fourth quarter, while the game was tied, the Vikings got into field goal range. Ryan Longwell was well within his range and the way the game was going, Chilly shouldn't take any chances.

With about a minute left in the game, Vikings run a play for no yards and than second down doing the same. It was obvious, they weren't trying to move the ball. So why call a time out with 19 seconds left on third down? Why not let the clock tick down to 10, call a time out, trot the FG Unit on the field and kick the game winner than? I said to my wife, the Vikings are making a huge mistake and sure enough, I was right. After the time out, too many men in the huddle, 5 yard penalty, Vikings out of field goal range? Perhaps. And than the Diva does what the Diva does best, try to do too much - on the next play, he throws an interception.

Saints win the toss in OT, march down the field and kick the game winning field goal to propel them into Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.

So here is what we learned this season, The Diva will waffle on retiring, he will return after training camp and lead his team to an impressive 12-4 record. He'll get his Head Coach a big money extension and the result will be the same, watching the Super Bowl at home like the rest of us.

Championship Weekend (and some baseball stuff)

So this is the weekend to determine who will play in Super Bowl XLIV. Two very intriguing games.

First, the upstart, upset minded Jets against the Powerful Colts. In Week 14, the Jets beat the Colts, when Coach Caldwell benched Peyton Manning and other starters. Here's the ironic thing, if the Jets were to win this game, Caldwell will look like a goat, because if he let Manning finish and if the Colts won, they would have knocked the Jets out. Now, back to the game. No one has given the Jets a legit shot at winning 1 playoff game, let alone 3, I am as guilty as the others. I just can't see how other teams (Bengals & Chargers) didn't take advantage of a Rookie QB by showing him different looks, instead they let the Jets dictate the pace. This week, that changes. Peyton Manning will strike early and often and force the Jets to win by Air. I don't see Sanchez doing that. Prediction: Colts 44 - Jets 17.

The NFC game will be interesting in that The Diva has been leading the team with his arm. Adrian Peterson has been contained most of the post season. He is due for a huge game. The Saints have been tearing teams apart, Drew Brees has looked all-world and his receivers have been holding their end up. The Super Dome will be rocking, but the key to this game is, who will be able to run the ball. We know both teams have the fire power to score, but can either team hold the ball and eat up some clock when need be? It pains me to say this, but I see the Diva doing it. Prediction: Vikings 38 - Saints 24.

Finally, I am a little bewildered by my beloved Philadelphia Phillies. They let Cliff Lee go for three minor league players, instead of bringing Lee back and having a Halladay, Hamels and Lee - 1,2,3 punch. The Phils claimed they wouldn't be able to sign Lee long term. And these minor leaguer will help replenish their farm system. My question is, if you shelled out $25 Million for 3 years on Joe Blanton, why not throw it all in and try to win with Lee this year? Who knows, it sounded to me, Lee wanted to finish his career with the Phillies and might have taken a hometown discount. I like Joe Blanton a lot, I think he is a solid pitcher, but let's face it, he is not a Cliff Lee. I trust the Phillies Brain Trust, they got players who put us in the last 2 World Series and winning 1 of them. Maybe the knew what they are doing? Only time will tell.

It's Frickin Cold Down Here

I moved to South Florida to be away from the cold, now I have to deal with 30 degree weather. This sucks, I am running out of warm clothing to wear, I turned the heat on in my house for the first time since moving in 5 years ago (mostly because I have a three month old who has the coldest room in the house.) I will never complain when it's 95 degrees and humid, but I will be the first to complain when the temps drop below 55. My skin is dry and cracking and I am miserable. I guess it could be worse, it could be snowing and sleeting?

Year in Review

So this is my blog and this is my forum to say what I want to say. Someone once told me it's a great idea to write your thoughts down, even if no one reads them.

2009 started off great. I really thought it was going to be my year. It turned out to be the most stressful year of my life and I am quite surprised I didn't have a breakdown. I gave up on the notion Sheri and I were going to have a baby the conventional way and I accepted the fact it was going to cost us A LOT of money to get pregnant, but I kept my eye on the end result, a beautiful baby (or two.) It was a very rocky pregnancy, but it happened and there were times I thought it might end, it didn't. Sheri and I have been blessed with the most beautiful little girl in the world, Sofia Drew. She is everything I could have ever imagined a baby could be and more. My daughter loves me and I am not just saying that, she looks at me with her big blue eyes and I can see how much she adores me. Of course, the feeling is quite mutual. No matter how crappy things are, I hold her and it all seems to go away. I think I was put on this planet to be a father.

The rest of my year was pretty stressful and instead of blogging about details, I thought I would sum it up like this - I believe in fate and karma. I believe in things happening for a reason and we may not know why something happens, there is some cosmic reason things happen. I can only control certain things around me and I try to do what's best for my family. I keep expectations down and hope up. I believe in God, but have my doubts about religion. I believe we are given choices and most people chose to do the wrong thing. I believe in putting yourself in situations where you have the most control. And I believe in myself, because if I can't do it, it probably won't get done.

Over 500

I finished this year 63-61 picking NFL games, it's not that hard, any fool can do it. This is why I hate those TV prognosticators, they get paid a lot of money and any average Joe can pick games as well as they did. Sure, they will research and come up with trends and etc., but look how much time I saved and still finished over 500.

I will have more to say later on, but I just wanted to post my results

2. Falcons 2.5 favs @ Bucs

3. Eagles 2.5 dogs @ Cowboys

4. Cardinals 3.5 favs against Packers

5. Ravens 10.5 favs @ Raiders

6. Upset Chiefs 12.5 dogs @ Broncos
