Rocky

I saw The Sixth Edition of the Rocky Series, "Rocky Balboa." I wasn't blown away by it, but it was a very good movie. It dragged a little bit in the beginning, but it started to pick up in the middle and the end was done very well. I thought Stallone did a nice job of portraying an aging fighter without coming off too desperate. As usual, Burt Young was a masterful Paulie. He finally showed some guilt towards the way he treated his sister, Rocky's wife.

I hate to say it, but I do think the series will continue. Although I don't think Rocky will fight himself, they set it up so he can possibly train Steps.

My Least Favorite People of '06

Yes, it's that time of year, reflecting on the year that was. Remembering all of the events of the year and the people who made them possible. So with that in mind, I present my top 10 least Favorite People.

10. Nancy Grace.
The problem I have with Nancy Grace is that she doesn't know who she is. She is not a News Person, she is an entertainer. There is a fine line between the 2. Someone who reports the news, reports the news. If they want to take a liberal or conservative slant, so be it. But stop fooling people into thinking that you are reporting news. I felt her guerrila tactics were uncalled for and unprofessional. Nancy Grace might find it in her best interest to sit down and watch John Walsh. I think she would learn a lot.

9. Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump.
Two big bags of wind. Let's start off with Rosie. She's obviously not comfortable with the fact that she is a Lesbian. I guess she hasn't come to grips with that yet, who knows maybe she never will. She also hasn't come to grips with her grotesque physical appearence. Rosie is a nasty person. I refuse to watch her on tv and the only times I am hearing about her is when she is doing something or saying something mean.

What is the deal with Donald Trump? He is perhaps the biggest egomaniac on the planet. He's become a cartoon character and its hard to take a thing he does or says serious. The only reason he is giving Miss USA a second chance is because he wants her. Who knows, maybe he already had her. I look at Trump and all I see is Fred Flintstone, but at least Fred Flintstone was funny.

8. The BCS.
The good ole Bowl Championship Committee or shall I say, the ole boys network. To say they are looking out for the best interest of the NCAA or college football is a joke. They are in it to Rape College Athletics. The reason they took Florida in the National Championship Game was because they were afraid of the backlash from the SEC dropping out. As far as I am concerned, the College Football Season ends at The Army/Navy Game. The 32 Bowl Games are just their so there is something to watch. Too bad "24" won't start a week early.

7. Judge Judy.
Her voice is like nails on a blackboard. No one can be this much of a bitch, well, I'd like to think no one can. As long as she is on tv, she will be on this list. Simply put, I loather her.

6. Isiah Thomas.
Forget the fact that he bankrupt the CBA. Forget the fact he almost ruined the Indiana Pacers. Forget, even the fact he has made stupid move after stupid move with the Knicks. The simple fact that he threatened to break Bruce Bowen's leg and threatened Carmello Anthony shows this guy is certifiable. I would not be surprised if in 10 years we see him driving a White Bronco, leaving the scene of a double homocide.

5. OJ Simpson.
If he would have killed Nicole and Ron, this is how he would have done it? I don't even know where to begin, so I will simply say this, to any woman dumb enough to go out with him, you get what you derserve.

4. Dick Cheney.
I think we should give Uncle Dickey a case of beer and a loaded shotgun and send him to Iraq. He'll shot everyone in sight. And who knows maybe we will get lucky and he won't come back.

3. The Skank Trifecta - Paris Hilton, Brittney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.
Let's see, what are Paris' good qualities, hmmm, let me think? Well, she did a home video or 2, is that something? Gee, I can't think of any, let me come back to her. Brittney Spears, whats her good qualities? Mother? Nope. Wive? Nope. Pop Star? Nope. Ok, let me get back to her in a minute. Lindsay Lohan, hmmm, what are her good qualities? exactly, the same as Hilton and Spears NOTHING. I think these 3 skanks deserve each other. And lets hope in 2007 we don't have to hear about them at all.

2. Terrell Owens.
TO ODed and it wasn't his fault. TO led the league in dropped passes and it wasn't is fault. TO destroyed the 49ers and Eagles, still it wasn't his fault. Everything that goes wrong in TOs life is not his fault. He is right, everyone else is wrong. TO is good, McNabb and Garcia and Parcells is bad.

1. Mel Gibson.
Yes Mel Gibson is an Anti-Semite. Don't let him fool you, he hates Jews. He probably hates Blacks, Asians, Women and Candians too. After The Lethal Weapn Series, I thought Mel Gibson because irrellevant. Actually, he did. If it wasn't for his piece of Anti-Jewish crap, he would have fell of the face of the earth. Mel, my advice to you is simple, have another drink and another and another. Get so sloppy drunk that you think you are Danny Glover. Than get into your car and drive far, far away. Drive so we don't ever have to hear from you ever again!

Love

The word love is definitely thrown around too much. You love your wife and your dog. You love pizza and that car you saw on the tv. You love your college and your house. You love to cook and knit. You love how your hair looks after it gets cut, but only when your hair dresser does it. You love the color red and aol. You love The Beatles and The Stones. You love the Yankees and The Cowboys. You love Hyannis Port, but only in the fall. You love the smell the bbq makes when you are making steaks and you love strawberry shortcake. You love your Aunt Marge and you love her homemade Lemon Cakes. You tell everyone before you hang up the phone you love them.

When a word is thrown around this much, doesn't it lose some of its meaning?

Nice People

I just would like to take a moment and mention how nice it is to see nice people in the world we live in. How many times do you go to the store and someone is nice enough to hold the door for you? Or you are running to catch an elevator and someone sticks their foot out so the door won't close? It definitely doesn't happen enough, but when it does happen, you gain a little faith in human kind.

The world would be such a better place if we smiled and used the words "please" and "thank you"

A Happy Medium

The other day I took my car into get serviced. A Coolant light came on and I didn't want to a chance something bad happened if I didn't get it checked out. I dropped the car off in the morning and waited a half hour for the Service Advisor to come back and say everything is ok. I signed for it and I was on my way.

The next day, my cell phone rings and its a survey wanting to know how my experience was with my service advisor. The call itself took 15 seconds - "On a scale of 1-5, how would rate the service advisor. 5 being the best, 1 being the worst." I said 5 and that was it.

2 days after, I got another call. This time from a woman who was surveying me about my car getting serviced. First of all, she couldn't read the paper in front of her. That was quite annoying. Second, Half the questions didn't even pertain to me. Instead of paying all of this money to have their customer service surveyed twice, they should use some of it to make the questions relevant.

Paid to be wrong

Weather men/women really get under my skin. They are almost always wrong - "It's going to be mostly sunny with a 15% chance of rain." What does that mean?? If this day happens 100 times, it will rain 15 of them? And whats up with "mostly sunny?" It's either going to be sunny or not sunny.

I understand predicting the weather is not an exact science, but I feel these people are wrong too often. And when you watch the weather and their is a bad storm, they always show the worse parts of the storm - the car floating away in the 3 feet of still waters, etc.

I also get really ticked off when I use to watch the local news and they would have the weather teaser on the top of the show and wouldn't show the weather for another 20 minutes. Why even have a teaser? People know when the weather is coming on, they are either going to watch it or not.

Finally, the weather people are wrong way more than they are right. If most people were wrong this many times at their job they would be fired.

One last note, I have really bad sinuses and I when my head starts to hurt, I know when a system is going to move in. One day a few years ago, the local weather guru promised a "mostly sunny day" and "it was a good day to take the boat out" of course he was wrong. My head was killing me and sure enough, like clock work, the skies opened up and it poured. The least thing the weather guru could have done was apologize to all of the boaters.

Yo Adrian!!

Call me a sucker, but I can't wait to see the latest Rocky Installment, "Rocky Balboa." I didn't like how the previous Rocky ended. I always thought it should have been in the ring and finally, after 15 years, this is finally going to happen.

The Rocky Story has been the greatest under dog story ever told. A common man with the heart of a champion pushed to the brink of failure, but through hard work, guts and determination, he faces his challenge and succeeds when no one gave him a shot to do so. This is the American Dream. Rocky is what's good in each other. Stay focused and never quit and when your opportunity arrives, jump on it.

I can't promise this movie will win any awards, in fact it will probably be hated by most critics, but if its anything like the other 5, it will make you want to run up the Philadelphia Art Museum Steps and through your hands in the air at the top.

Talk isn't so Cheap

Have you ever really looked at your phone bill? You have your local charges and long distance charges and maybe even internet charges, but why is it so damn expensive? Have you seen your Cable Bill? Your Satellite Bill? Why are they so damn expensive? Oh yeah, Taxes. Uncle Sam's way of letting us know we are alive.

I have come to the realization, that as long as I am here, I will have to pay taxes. There seems to be no logical rationalization of who is taxing me and for how much and what is this money going towards, all I know is that I am paying taxes on all forms of Communications. Why is it the FCC is getting any of my money? I disagree with most of their regulations and I don't feel as if my money should be used to pay for lawyers in the fight to what they perceive is "decent."

Here's my solution, take the money from the taxing of Phone Bills, Cable Bills and Satellite Bills that goes to the FCC and put that money towards research and development for better technology. This way, it will be cheaper to make a phone call, watch television and get on line. As American's, we have the freedom of speech, it's just so damn expensive to say what we have to say!
